Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff Factory - Totoro Cream Puffs

What's better than going to the Totoro museum or collecting tonnes of cute Totoro merchandise when you are in Tokyo? If you are a dessert AND Totoro lover like I am, you will be thrilled to find the cutest edible Totoros at the Shiro-Hige's Cream Puff Factory.

The Shiro-Hige's Cream Puff Shop is said to be opened by the sis-in-law of Miyazaki. Every corner of the bakery is filled with Totoro figures, stuffed toys, cute signages, paintings and cute mementos. Overall, the place has a super cosy feel to it and it makes you fuzzy inside from being surrounded by all the cuteness!

Look at all the cute figurines and felt Totoros!

I love these so much!

The bakery is located on the first floor, and the stairs lead you to the cafe upstairs

The bakery also sells these adorable looking cookies in the shape of clovers, mushrooms, acorns, and leaves.

There were 4 different cream puffs flavours when we were there (¥400-¥440 each): Custard, chocolate, Wakayama strawberry and salted caramel banana, the last two being their seasonal flavours. I love it that the Totoros put on different head toppings to indicate the different fillings. Note that it is cheaper to order them as takeaways than to eat in.

Not only were these puffs pretty to look at, but they taste really delicious too. The cream fillings were really light and refreshing and they go really well with the flaky choux pastry.

Shiro-Hige's Cream Puff Factory is the perfect place to spend a quiet afternoon away from the hustle of Tokyo, and be lost in the world of Totoro. I can imagine myself staying here all day on a rainy day. For Ghibli fans and puff lovers, I highly recommend you to stop by and pick up an adorable Totoro to enjoy.

You can find the full list of the regular and seasonal flavours of the puffs in the official website below.

Located approx 15 minutes away by train from Shirohige's Cream Puff Factory is Shimokitazawa, a neighbourhood more popularly known as Shimokita. A popular indie hipster heaven, you can find record stores, vintage boutiques, small coffee shops and independent cafes that draws crowds of youngsters who want a slice of the relaxed cool scene the place exudes. Experience Tokyo's trendy subculture and its vibrant atmosphere at Shimokitazawa, and grab a high quality brew and a fluffy pancake while you are at it.
