MAXI Coffee Bar - Iced Cereal Milk Latte at Ann Siang Hill

Photos of the Iced Cereal milk latte all over Instagram drew me to Maxi Coffee Bar - a charming hole-in-the-wall shophouse at Ann Siang Hill. I love anything cereal & malty and had to make a trip down just for it.

The Iced cereal milk latte tastes as good as it sounds - it was sweet, creamy and nutty with a smooth finish. It's so easy on the palette and it's not difficult to see why it's such a hit.

Madeleines are one of my favourite pastries and we had to order the Madeleines (5 for $12) by Chef Colin Buchan (baked to order) for an afternoon teatime snack. There were not many customers who ordered this, maybe they don't know the existence of it cause it's situated far below on the menu. But you HAVE TO order this and treat yourself during your visit.

When we placed our orders, we were pleasantly surprised to see a staff take the madeleine iron griddle and fill it with batter. After popping them into the oven 15 minutes later, we were served warm madeleines dusted with icing sugar. Super delicious smells of a freshly baked sponge cake greeted us. Look at these gorgeous babies!

The outsides of the madeleines were perfectly golden brown and crisp while the insides were pillowy and crumbly at the same time. A small bite of the warm buttery madeleine with a sip of latte is pure bliss!

Featuring seasonal espressos and filtered coffee (updated on a monthly basis) roasted by The Community Coffee Singapore, Koppi Roasters, etc on its menu, Maxi Coffee Bar also serves up a wonderful array of French Onion and Grilled Cheese melts ($12), Kimchi Grilled Cheese on Sourdough ($14), Miso Peanut Butter Jam on soft milk buns ($5.50) and Banana bread ($4.50). I will make a return trip to try their other baked goods on the menu.

You know the place is good when you see a crowd queuing for a seat or waiting to be called for their cuppa on the go. For dine-in, you can be seated at the coffee counter-table, by the windowsills or dine alfresco and people-watch with a latte in hand.

For an idyllic weekend afternoon, head over to Maxi Coffee Bar for some really good coffee in the middle of an aesthetic neighbourhood. You can also pop by Tong Heng which is located just a stone's throw away to get some of their really famous and flaky egg tarts, that also taste best when served warm.
