PIVOT Cafe - Tamago Sando at North Canal Road

Located just a short walk from the Raffles Mrt Station, Pivot Cafe is a fairly new eatery in the CBD area that offers a small range of patisseries and light bites to go along with their drinks menu - Iced Black, Iced White, Double Macchiato. Pivot's prime location is perfect if you are taking a walk in the area during the weekends and would like an early pick me up. Pivot is also a great breakfast option for office workers working in the area to refuel themselves.

Who knew egg salad sandwiches could be this trendy? You might have seen photos of this distinctive looking egg sandwich from Pivot in many different hand shots appearing on your Instagram or social media feed.

On Pivot's menu, the Tamago Sando ($7) is described as nothing fancy, just egg mayo sandwich with a sous vide egg. But it is exactly this combination of bright egg yolks sandwiched in between a creamy egg mayo salad nestled in Shokupan bread (Japanese style milk loaf) that reminds us of the delightful sandwiches we see so often (a long time ago) in Japanese combinis.

The Tamago Sando tastes as gorgeous as it looks - crisp pillowy bread with a delicious filling of creamy and savory egg mayo sprinkled with grounded black pepper. I love my eggs and anything yellow, so this Sando was perfectly comforting to me. It was like tasting a little slice of Japan and I will take it anytime.

Offering Breakfast Combo Deals ($8-10), take your pick from its other Bakes and Viennoiserie (Maple Pecan Plait, Banana Bread, Cauliflower Quiche, Egg Mayo Croissant and more) and pair it with a Iced Latte or Mocha or even a pot of tea. We felt that it was pretty value for money given the location of the café.

If you have a sweet tooth, do check out some of their quirky named cakes that are made in-house. OH! Gee Cha ($8.50) - a light Hojicha mousse with an apple compote centre on a bed of Hojicha genoise. Carrot Ate Sheeren ($8) - a twist on the classic carrot cake, made with 2 types of cheese with a maple and ginger cream icing. There's also Lickitung ($8.50) - yes same name as the Pokemon. An unlikely combination of rockmelon, guava and coconut in a pink glaze.

Although small, Pivot is spacious enough for you to sip on your drink and enjoy your bake of choice comfortably while basking in its clean and minimalist ambience.

I would highly recommend a trip to Pivot if you miss travelling and would like a good old egg salad Sando that is reminiscent of Japan.
