Cafe Onion Anguk - Best Cafes in Seoul

During my trip to Seoul this time, it's safe to say that Koreans love their bread and having their cafes being housed in traditional Hanok settings. Cafe Onion at Anguk is one of the trendiest place to have your afternoon coffee. While keeping its industrial chic elements in the interiors of the cafe, you can soak in the traditional feel from its overall wooden furnishing. It certainly makes for a unique cafe experience.

Where modernity meets tradition

The exteriors of the traditional hankok setting blends beautifully with the industrial chic concept of the interiors. The overall aesthetic of Cafe Onion is modern, while retaining nods to the city's past.

I really love how the new and old are synced so well in the concept of this Anguk outlet. It makes you feel like you have travelled back in time, while having some very modern bakes and drinks. Spot the 'Onion' signs that are subtly scattered around the cafe's space.

Serving up an assortment of bread and pastries from the famed Bread 05, take your pick from their popular butter bread, fruit cream danishes, etc.

Introducing the signature item on the menu - the sugar-coated Pan d’Or 5.0 (snow peaked doughnuts). Don't they remind you of christmas wonderland with that heap of icing sugar on top? They looked pretty amazing but taste wise I felt that it was a drier version of castella cake and it was really sweet. If you have a super sweeth tooth, this might be right up your alley.

I loved that they use their own local ingredients in many of them (think sweet red bean paste, Korean strawberries and injeolmi fillings). They also had their own version of the popular 'dirty bread' in chocolate flavour.

The coffee here is obviously the main draw. After ordering your drinks head indoors and sit at the low tables on a cushion on the floor in a Korean way. It was a really unique experience to sit cross-legged indoors while enjoying an afternoon tea with friends.

Every spot within the cafe is lovely to take photos, as there is lots of natural sunlight filtering in through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows which makes for good photos.

For a perfect spot to have some delicious bakes with coffee, Cafe Onion is the hippest cafe to put on your list of Seoul must-visit places. The industrial-chic aesthetic cafe is not only highly popular with Instagrammers, but also perfect for one to make a pit stop for a caffeine fix.
