Located in a quaint Onsen Resort town, Bakery & Table Tofuya is one of the best spots in Izu to have your afternoon tea. The outdoor terrace oversees a beautiful pool and offers a scenic view while you sip on your drink and have a bite of the wide variety of pastries the cafe has to offer.
Bakery & Table Tofuya has its own foot bath - so soak up your tired feet while having a restorative time at the outdoor seatings.
We visited the Bakery during winter and were lucky enough to see the change in colours of the leaves. The seasonal colours of the foliage was a beautiful contrast to the turquoise waters of the pool. The cafe also retains a rustic charm from centuries ago, as the view oversees olden style Japanese houses.
Bakery & Table Tofuya is a bread lover's paradise: Golden buttery croissants, Japanese Classics such as Melon Pan with a cracked cookie crust, Curry Pan, Onsen buns, Breads filled with local anpan (Red Bean paste) and sesame, Danish fruit pastries and Cone breads filled with custard or chocolate fillings. They also offered savory breads with ham and cheeses. It's a joy to take your pick from the array of artisanal breads - some say that Japan has the best bread outside of France and it's not hard to see why as their bakers are devoted to their craft and they use the highest quality ingredients.
Ordered the Okinawan Brown Sugar hot latte and Iced Maple latte (there's something so enjoyable about having an iced drink during the cold winter). Both the Melon pan and Almond croissant were stellar. They were crisp, buttery and flaky and paired really well with the coffee.
Worthy of mention, Bakery & Table Tofuya is especially popular with tourists and locals alike during cold winter days because... the outdoor seats are equipped with an onsen foot bath. How awesome is that? You are able to enjoy your bakes while dipping your feet in the hot spring waters. We were so excited about the foot bath that we quickly got our orders and 'choped' a seat for ourselves in the outdoors space. Dipping in the warm spring waters is one of the best experience anyone could have during Winter and it was pure bliss! The bakery also provides towels for its customers to use at the foot bath.
For a relaxing 'spa' experience and to spend a leisurely afternoon with high quality bakes, Bakery & Table Tofuya is an excellent stop point if you are in the Izu area. Take in the views of the surrounding nature against the clear turquoise waters of the pool and let your worries melt away.
